We all love innovative new tools, but there are some tried-and-true basic tools that we continue to rely on.  These are some of the "must-have" basic tools... tools that are often listed on a "bring-to-class" supply list... tools we must replace from time to time.

Craft knife
Just about every art class I've taken has a craft knife on the supply list!  Made by Excel, a company known for its super-sharp blades, this precision craft knife has three features I love: a tightly closing safety cap so I don't cut myself when rummaging through my bag, a soft grip to pamper my hands (in red, my favorite color!), and a square bushing that prevents the knife from rolling off the table and into my foot!  A bargain price, too! Judi-Kins Diamond Glaze
This water-based dimensional adhesive from Judi-Kins is a very versatile art tool. Diamond Glaze is the best adhesive for gluing glitter, beads, glass, plastic and vellum to paper. Add Diamond Glaze to your artwork for a beautiful raised glass-like finish.  You can thin it with water for a lacquer-like finish or add drops of dye ink to make custom color glazes. Wire cutters
If you make jewelry or work with assemblage projects, wire cutters are an indispensable tool.  These  wire cutters are small and lightweight for traveling, have soft grips and cut all types of thin metal wire.  (Handle grips are actually blue)

  Handy Tape

This was a great idea! A 25-foot roll of removable, reusable self-adhesive measuring tape in 12-inch sections.  Put measuring tape anywhere -- on your work table, desktop, or even the bottom of your Genesis Trimmer!  Great for collage projects, too -- the tape is exactly the width of the bottom of an Altoid tin!  25 feet --just $4.95

Brass brush

Our handy wood-handled brass distressing brush is ideal for distressing card stock, metal or any too-new-looking finish. Great for roughing up painted metal tins before adding adhesive or new paint. We love using it to feather the deckled edges of a card torn with the Art Deckle ruler.

Sanding block

Sanding blocks are useful for sanding or distressing large areas of card stock, metal or painted surfaces.  This aluminum oxide flexible sanding block works on flat or curved surfaces, gets into corners easily, and can be used wet or dry.  It's durable and re-usable. Just rinse with water and shake dry. 4" x 3" x 1". Two-sided: One side is medium grit; the other side coarse.
